Semrush Rank is included in the SEO Toolkit subscription and represents Semrush’s proprietary ranking of domains on the internet with the highest organic visibility, based on estimated monthly traffic from organic search.
The ranking is based on monthly data from the Semrush database and can be viewed for any of our regional databases. A lower rank number indicates a larger online presence. For example, sites like Google, Wikipedia, Amazon, and YouTube all have a Semrush Rank less than 10.
Historical data is available via the selector at the top right of the interface, allowing you to analyze changes between specific months over the past few years. This data goes back to January 2012.
How is the Rank calculated?
Semrush Rank is calculated by estimating the traffic a domain receives from all of its organic positions in our database. Keep in mind that our database includes a domain’s rankings within Google’s first ten results pages.
- SE Keywords represents the number of organic keywords for which the domain ranks within Google’s first ten results pages.
- SE Traffic is the estimated amount of traffic the domain receives from its SE Keywords. This is calculated by multiplying the average click-through rate (CTR) for the domain’s positions by the monthly search volume of each keyword. This number is a monthly estimate of organic search traffic.
- Costs indicate the estimated price of acquiring the same level of traffic via Google Ads. In other words, it's an estimate of how much it would cost to pay for the equivalent amount of traffic using paid ads. This is not the amount the domain is actually spending, but rather the estimated value of its organic traffic.
- Paid Keywords represent the number of keywords for which Semrush has detected the domain running pay-per-click (PPC) ads in Google Ads.
Paid Traffic is the estimated monthly traffic the domain receives from those paid keywords.
Winners and Losers Report
The Winners & Losers report within the Semrush Rank tool shows the domains in our database that experienced the biggest improvements or declines in organic or paid keywords and search traffic compared to the previous month. This report is an excellent resource for prospecting top domains on the internet and identifying trending websites that are increasing their presence in search engines.
In addition to keywords and traffic, the report includes columns with estimated costs for these keywords, as well as the value of newly won or lost traffic for each domain. These monetary valuations can help you assess the commercial value of a website’s gains or losses in search visibility.
Any positive change in a metric is shown in green (1), and any decline is shown in red (2). The gray numbers represent the current value for each metric.
The top sites when you first open the report are displayed as the “Winners,” and sorting the change in number of keywords by ascending will show you the “Losers” (see below).
Clicking on the domain will take you to a Domain Overview report, and clicking on the arrow box icon will take you to the website’s homepage in a new tab.
What are the best uses of Semrush Rank?
Competitive Analysis Reference
This report can be used as a reference tool for any competitive analysis or Internet research. Compare Semrush ranks between multiple websites to identify how much bigger or smaller a competitor’s web presence is compared to yours. The closer the Semrush Rank is to 1, the bigger the website's online presence.
Lead Generation & Prospecting
If you export to a CSV or Excel file, you can filter and sort your spreadsheet to find out which domains from this list have the most paid keywords, paid traffic, and estimated paid traffic budget.
If you work in advertising and want to find leads that have already spent a certain amount of money on PPC ads, sorting and filtering this report is a great place to look.
